HOW does a pile of poems become a manuscript? WHICH of these poems belong together? Do I need to cut a poem? Do I need to add a poem? WHY have other poets organized their books the way they did? WHAT strategies can I use?
By considering how not only poetry, but also the other arts select and arrange (albums / songs, films / scenes, etc), we will explore the SELECTION and ARRANGMENT of poems as a FORM OF COMPOSITION and therefore of creativity and play! This class will be a gentle supportive environment, open to anyone interested in making a manuscript—whether your ultimate goal is “traditional” publication, self-publication, or simply your own satisfaction.
